I solved this problem. I completed the project table and it's sturdy enough to
walk on. I'm going to make spanners out of 2x4's with a rubber-padded foot on
each end and one in the middle. These feet will sit in the three aisles of the
church and allow enough room underneath the spanners for pews and minifigs. I'll
place small boards between the spanners to walk and sit on while I work on the
interior, so I'll be working a few inches above the church floor rather than a
couple feet. I'll get into the church using a six-foot ladder - I need to get to
the table level and over a 2-foot church wall. I'm hoping cats can't climb
ladders :-)
I'll be sure to get a picture of me *in* the church :-) I'll also post pictures
of the project table on the church web site soon. It was an interesting project
itself. I built it out of pipe, and yes, the whole thing is on casters, as
planned.
I finally start construction this weekend.
