However, it is far less ambitious than I first planned.

Though it's footprint is smaller than the 48 stud base plate it sits on, it
still costs £17 a storey in bulk windows alone. With the bulk bricks as
well, its around £22 a story.

Now a 10 storey office block would look nice, but try saying £220 to
yourself for a pile of bricks!
Empire State? £2000+. Forget it!

It's not *too* bad. The going rate on Ebay for standard colors is roughly
$8-12 per 500 bricks. Other less standard colors (dark grey, tan, etc). And
if you can find somebody that wants to get rid of 1, 2, maybe even 3,000
bricks it can be a even cheaper. Basically, if you just want plain bricks,
that's the easiest, cheapest kind to get. When I started building my cruise
ship, that was the one thing I didn't think I'd be able to get enough of.
Now, I've got bricks coming out the wazoo; it's specialized pieces that I
can't get enough of.

It does get expensive. What I do is focus on the facades & all *exposed*
areas of the buliding. For example: a city block is say 8 buildings long, so
they are right next to each other, so those sides that are not exposed,
don't need windows & can be made out of the *non-building colors* (yellow,
blue etc.) which are more easily & less expensively obtained. I do this for
the backs of the buildings as well, because in most cases there will be
another block back to back with the first one.
So far I've only reached 5 stories for 2 buildings, the others are all under
3.

I'd like to see pix of your block.

Thanks
Jonathan
