Here's the first LEGO model to be photographed by my new Nikon Coolpix 990!

Not all the pictures are great (taken in somewhat low light, and they're
also the first pictures I've uploaded to my computer, so I'm not that great
with the camera yet.)
Well, on to the model:
- fully motorized:  a geared motor drives the rear wheels,
and a micromotor turns the 40T gear which turns the entire
front section.  It's very slow, but it runs

- fiber optic "engine"

- airlock which opens underneath the model

- storage for four space suits.  You can see one of the
locker doors open in this pic:

- sleeping and living quarters for four (with top bunks that fold away)

- fully detailed cockpit

- and of course, giant independently suspended wheels

Pretty cool stuff. I like the use of universal joints to provide power to the front(?) wheels so that the suspension can move the wheels up and down. (...) Oh my oh my! That is a very cool model. Excellent looks, and it works! The combination of those two is what makes for my favorite models. Hey TLG! This would make a fine UCS entry for your new Mars series. (24 years ago, 2-Nov-00, to lugnet.build, lugnet.general, lugnet.space, lugnet.publish)

Hi Bram! Grats on the new camera. You might want to use a tripod. I've noticed from using my Nikon that when I take a picture with no flash, the shutter stays open longer and the slightest movement results in blur. Those are some nifty wheels you (...) (...) My favorite part is the cockpit- you did a great job at cramming in all those computers. The studs-down use of that window makes for a killer front end, too. You've got a much better camera than I'm using... but you need to hold it still! -- (...) (24 years ago, 2-Nov-00, to lugnet.build, lugnet.general, lugnet.space, lugnet.publish)

(...) <SNIP> (...) Awesome functionality. Would you be willing to post some more details on the articulated joint? I've been taking a look at an articulated vehicle again lately and this fits right into the puzzle perfectly. My last one relied on (...)
