Hmmm...According to <http://www.lego.com/bulk/bulkpage2.asp>, there are
currently 3 colors of 2x2 tiles being offered for US$6.99/100 -- black,
white, and red. That's not much, but it's enough to do a three-tone mosaic.
If somebody had US$1000 to blow on 2x2 tiles, they could make a 96x149 mosaic
of the Mona Lisa, for example:

Dang, that's expensive! Even if 1x1 tiles were 1/4 the cost of 2x2 tiles,
it would still cost US$250 to do it 1/4 size or 1/2 scale.
So, what's the cheapeast that 1x1 bricks have ever been seen? If 1x1 bricks
could be bought in bulk for US$.005 (1/2 cent) each, that might be reasonably
affordable -- that would work out to about US$70 for a 96x149-tile mosaic
image.
Hmmm, the mind reels.......

| (...) I'm drooling at the thought of possibly being able to someday cover a 48x48 baseplate with a mosaic of 1x1 tiles. Let's see... 48x48 would be 2,304 1x1 tiles...what would that cost? Assuming the price of 1x1 tiles was 1/4 the prices of 2x2 (...) (24 years ago, 16-Jun-00, to lugnet.build)
