To get the distance of grasshopper (Ugh, she sucks sometimes!) , the only thing

Hello,
I am attempting to make a Super Car-ish Grasshopper (The thing from Twisted

knew how to make the thing jump into the air.. I know there was a (non-Lego)
remote controlled car out on the market a while ago, and it jumped. Does
anyone know how that thing jumped? Or, does anyone have suggestions? Thanks,
