I bought that set of tread links recently.
N779938 - 36 x Conveyor belt links - $6.25
Actually I received 40 links!  But I still think that's way expensive...

I had enough to make a tread using 2 24-tooth gears spaced 12 holes apart
(including the two holes used by the gears)
There was one link left.

Needless to say, I do not have enough to test the 23pip spacing scenario.

I've been looking at the technic tread links available from Pitsco and
have one question about them.  How many links does it take to make a
decent set of treads?  For example, how many links are used to make a
tread with 24-tooth gears at the ends and spaced 15pips from axle to
axle?  with 40-tooth gears and a 23 pip spacing?
