I’m looking to build the scaffolding/frame similar to the photos (linked below), and would like to learn from other’s attempts. If it has been attempted.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Aaron,

It depends a lot on the dimensions. You might wanna try searching for cranes with lattice booms, as various techniques have been used for those which may work for you. Here are some examples to get you started:

And the new 8288 crawler crane set may give you ideas:

I will try some of those search words. Hopefully it will help.

But you seem to suggest that my options are technic - studless or otherwise?

Not at all, but it certainly is one option. In fact HoMa’s boom doesn’t use Technic at all, but probably doesn’t get the look you want.

Another possibility is what I used in this trestle bridge. Unfortunately I don’t have any close-ups, but the main supports are Technic, the diagonal braces are plates attached to 1/2 pins and studs on the Technic beams.

(...) snipped... Here are a few good examples as well... (4 URLs) I have seen some cool ones on water towers and things like that on club train layouts, but sadly they arent coming up in a search. Janey "Red Brick" (18 years ago, 30-Dec-06, to lugnet.build, FTX)
