   Hi Bill,

Wow I really love all the architectural details! My only nitpick is the front doors: your hotel would be perfect if you could find a “left” and a “right” door. Not sure if such doors exist in white (if any) though.

Question for you - do you keep all of your amazing models intact?

Hey Bryan,

Yeah, the door thing bugs me too. There are a more modern version of doors that do have a left and a right. I think it is a all clear panel with just a border of color around the edge and a small square for a handle. I only have em in red, so it doesn’t work with the color scheme, or the style. About the only other solution I could think of would be to make revolving doors, but didn’t have the time to figure it out...

To answer your question, yes, I keep all of my amazing models intact, it is the not so amazing ones I take apart! : )

Actually, I just redid my entire studio. Took out the extra bed and added more shelves. No longer a studio/guestroom, it is now exclusively my Lego studio. I went through and pulled everything out that could be dismantled or sorted into the collection. Took about two weeks, but I am finally seeing the tail end of it.

Normally when I design a model I do the same sort of thing I did at the Legoland Modelshop. I first design an unglued prototype to get the shape and form right. Once I like it and the client approves, I will do a second glued final version that gets sent to the client. If I like the prototype enough and think I might be able to make more copies to sell, I will keep it on my shelf for future reference.

When I redid the studio, I pulled some of the older ones down and broke them apart to work into the collection. I even finally took apart my oldest model, a 7 foot long version of the Titanic. I had built in back in 92-93. So it was a bit sad. I kinda always wanted to rebuild it (it was broken into a couple of sections when I moved to California in 2000), but just have never had the time. Tricky thing though working older bricks into my collection. When a do a model for someone, I always use new, unused bricks. So if they are dusty or discolored at all, I won’t use them. Needless to say, I have a couple of big boxes of old bricks that need to be cleaned, and a bunch of white bricks that are too yellowed to use!

Oh, well, that is what brickshelf is for!

Thanks for your comments!

Bill
