Re: Seeing a tree instead of the forest...

(...) i would find an ldraw file usefull as well. i have a nice larger pine tree design made from 2 christmas kits that i made insturctions for but not all trees are pine's. a few oaks and other trees would be a welcome addition to my layout.   Re: Seeing a tree instead of the forest...

(...) you're most welcome, I do apologize for not posting who the tree came from. I guess the second part of my post that I just realized was this - I'd like to populate my town with those trees, and if someone had already done the legwork and put (...)   Re: Seeing a tree instead of the forest...

(...) Wow, I'm honored. I still have the tree you referenced built, and if you'd like I can create it in LDraw and post it, so you can look at it closer. I've also got a better camera now that I can take larger and clearer pictures with. The key, I (...) (21 years ago, 1-Dec-04, to lugnet.build, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade)

Re: Seeing a tree instead of the forest...

(...) Hey Timothy, Trees are tough, but key is to get the trunk can branches done and then add the foliage. That said, it would be great to see sets on this. Usually 6X6 studs is a good trunk size, but don't worry it takes alot of building and (...) (21 years ago, 1-Dec-04, to lugnet.build)

Seeing a tree instead of the forest...

First, I must apologize if this question is answered someplace that I overlooked. Okay, now here is my question - does anyone out there sell kits for large trees? (URL) to that effect? I've tried several times to build my own version of those types (...) (21 years ago, 1-Dec-04, to lugnet.build, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade)

  ESB Scene: Rescue Mission

The protocol droid C3-PO seeks out Han to inform him that Luke has not returned to the base. To find his friend, Han sets out on a Tauntaun in the Hoth's snowy wastes, heedless of the dropping temperatures, which is likely to kill him. (3 URLs) (...)   3vil Zathrak Anti-Personnel Light Mecha Assault Ship

What? More 3vil so soon? Oh yes... it *is* the holidays after all, and seeing you cry like a muddy, friendless schoolgirl makes me almost jolly. To that end, I figured that instead of stuffing your stockings, I'd freem them off with the latest 3vil (...) (21 years ago, 29-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build, lugnet.announce.moc, FTX)

  Re: Cleaning Bricks

No, because dishwashers heat the water to way past 40 degrees C. Which will inevitably melt your LEGO bricks and probably stuff up your dishwasher. Washing machines that have a cold water cycle and a pillowcase half-full of LEGO are probably your (...) (21 years ago, 27-Nov-04, to lugnet.build)

  Cleaning Bricks

Sure this subject has been broached before, but how is the best way to clean your bricks. I've heard the warm soapy water and a toothbrush, but is the dishwasher ok? Matt (21 years ago, 27-Nov-04, to lugnet.build)

Re: Captain Cool-Guy: The Expanded Universe

Hi Felix Wow, your creation of Captain Cool Guy et al is fantastic! I hope you manage to flesh out a comic strip. Captain Cool Guy is just ripe for a cult following! Regarding the size/scale you are building, could it be called "macro"? Who cares (...) (21 years ago, 25-Nov-04, to lugnet.build, FTX)

Re: Need Help: Rotating Sections of a Spaceship

(...) Hey Lenny, I just wanted to pipe in with my two cents. I've been working on a ship with a rotating mid-section, though it's probably not as large as yours is looking, it's a medium minifig scale ship, and it only has one rotating section, in (...)   Re: Cornered roofs

(...) For that, I'd recommend sculpting a rounded roof out of plates. But, if you want something made from slopes, I have another idea I used on my Mediterranean windmill. Try to imagine what a series of 45° corner slopes (or even 30° corner slopes) (...) (21 years ago, 24-Nov-04, to lugnet.build, lugnet.build.schleim)

Re: Need Help: Rotating Sections of a Spaceship

(...) The key thing is keep the center of gravity of the ring at the drive axle. If it is 1mm off then you will need a lot more torque, and the rotation speed will be non-uniform. (...) You can just use 3 bevel gears or this piece (URL) to do (...) (21 years ago, 24-Nov-04, to lugnet.build, lugnet.technic, lugnet.space)

Re: Need Help: Rotating Sections of a Spaceship

(...) There are a couple of option without resorting to mods: (URL) Use a large technic turntable. This is probably preferable, as the ring will be large and it will give you a better mechanical advantage, and allow a much more sturdy connection (...)   Re: Need Help: Rotating Sections of a Spaceship

(...) Cool! But don't knock yourself out trying to get it to run off a single motor - unless you only have one!! You'd probably find on the real craft, they would be driven independently, with computer synchronisation. (...) LOL don't worry it (...)   Re: Need Help: Rotating Sections of a Spaceship

In lugnet.build, Leonard Hoffman asked: (...) Alas, the Technic toolkit has nothing in the way of planetary gears, or a means to do coaxial shafts. But if you're willing to do brick-modding, you could carve out the center of a 48-tooth gear (so it (...) (21 years ago, 24-Nov-04, to lugnet.build, lugnet.technic, lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Need Help: Rotating Sections of a Spaceship

(...) I just figured how to do the different directions on a single (URL) (forgive the MSPaint drawing). And speed is actually something I don't want - the HabRing has to be very slow since I'm going to have detail I want people to see inside of it. (...)   Re: Need Help: Rotating Sections of a Spaceship

(...) Most probably - assuming the rings are both balanced all you need to overcome is friction. And they won't be spinning all that fast. (...) Yes you can - you can connect as many motors you like in parallel. Their output shafts can be connected (...) (21 years ago, 24-Nov-04, to lugnet.build, lugnet.technic, lugnet.space, FTX)
