The old style had solid little “plate pins”, whereas the new ones have
hollow ones. However, the NEW “plate pins” are too small to fit snugly with
hollow studs! And no, the 1x4 technic rack’s pins *don’t* fit with the 1x4x5
window hollow studs.

I can confirm this is the case - the new hollow ones have no gripping power at
all when used in hollow studs.
