Hello Keith,
Today I've tried to make a dragon during lunch.
At the moment I'm working abroad, so I don't have LDraw and only some LEGO
pieces that I picked up on a fleamarket Saturday. My terrifying dragon ended up
being more a cute dinosaur then a dragon, but I think you can modify the
dinosaur to make it a real dragon.
These are the parts I used (all the same color):
2x2 brick: 10 pieces
2x3 brick: 4 pieces
2x4 brick: 16 pieces
Feet (4 times): place two 2x2 bricks on top of each other on a 2x3 brick like
this:
xx
xx
xxx
Body
Using four 2x4 bricks make a 4x8 layer. Exactly on top put another 4x8 layer
out of 4 2x4 bricks. A third 4x8 layer is placed one stud shifted (connecting
area is thus 4x7). On top of this you place two 2x4 bricks in the middle two
rows, so that the connecting area is 2x7 studs.

Head:
place a 2x2 brick on top of a 2x4 brick (at the end). Place two of these parts
on top of each other.

Place now the head on the body (at the 2x8 row)
Place the four legs under the body (two in the front and two in the back, with
two studs separation between each pair)
The total creature now looks:
From the side: From the front.

(Actually in real life he looks better)
Modifications supposed:
- Build this in black instead of red or blue like I did
- Use sloped bricks to smoothen the creature. Especially the last row of the
body: Use sloped bricks instead of the 2 2x4 bricks. Also the connection of the
feet to the body can be made of sloped bricks.
- Instead of the 2x2 brick for the mouth, use a plate. I think it looks better.
- Try to put a 'flame' in the mouth for imitating fire.
- For the wings of the dragons I think you could use for each wing a 2x6 plate
with 2 2x4 plates below:
xxxxxx
xxxxxxo
oooos
ssss
I kope this helps you for making your own dragon.
