October 13th, 2003 and here is Study 13.

The rest of the photos are here

The only thing Study 13 shares with Study 12 is the deck.

Study 12 was a disappointment. Unlike other bridges with an arch, Study 12’s arch was a pain to design, to build, to set up/tear down and just did not feel “right”. The only feature of 12 I felt good about was its curved deck.

I then turned to the only study that was not a bridge but a column, Study 3, for help. The groves feature of 3 have seen use in other bridges but could only seen on two sides, not all four. But, I also knew the uniform top-to-bottom look of 3’s shaft would be dull and gave 13’s a taper by simply changing the “diameter” every so many bricks. The foot of the column also went from the rectangle look used in many prior creations to a more rounded one (something you’ll be seeing more of).

Hope you enjoy it.

Adr.

(...) I can appreciate the complexity of a curved bridge deck. There are many here in Houston (road bridges) and it's impressive to see them. Of course they are plate girder construction, but the girders are curved as well! (as opposed to a (...) (21 years ago, 13-Oct-03, to lugnet.build)

Adrian where's SDLUG?? I'm still waiting!! I'd like to get a chance to meet you & see these bridges in person. I've been able to track more San Diego AFOL's through SCLTC & Bricklink (not to mention getting hit on by one of the girls that works at (...) (21 years ago, 14-Oct-03, to lugnet.build, FTX)

(...) All I can say is that somebody has WAAAAY too many 2x2 grey tiles. :) Very impressive! I like the detail you put into this. I'm no structural engineer like TJ but I can appreciate big detailed MOC's just as well as the next guy. :) The fact (...) (21 years ago, 14-Oct-03, to lugnet.build)

Realy nice work, Adrian. My only comment: I believe that the bridge would look far more convincing and elegant when you taper the collums from the bottom towards the top instead of the other way round. Engineering logic predicts that you need more (...) (21 years ago, 14-Oct-03, to lugnet.build)
