Actually it only took a few hours to build the model, but I designed it six
years ago.
Back in 1996-97 I did a lot of rendering with POV-Ray. I did not know about
rec.toys.lego or Ldraw. One day I came across Anton Raves' excellent
library of Lego parts for POV-Ray (http://www.antonraves.com/lego.html). I
downloaded it and started building.
The ability to build with parts that I did not have and colors of my choice
was a blast.
My favorite virtual model was a tracked exploration vehicle see -
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/bhayes/crawler/crawler.jpg
This image shows the beauty of Anton's library - smooth curves (no
facetting) and great colors.
Anyway, I always wanted to build this model, but I lacked a few key piices:
the front window and enough of the tall inverted slopes - I never thought I
would get them. I finally obtained a copy of set 6560. It had the pieces
that I needed.
It was a dream come true to finally hold (and drive and play with) the
model. During construction I made a few minor changes to the design, see -
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=838
I am not sure why, but this model/building experience has been extremly
satisfying.
Let me know what you think of the model.

| (...) Very cool. it's quite reminiscent of a Jawa Sandcrawler in its general profile, or maybe a futuristic RV. I bet the crewmen would have a blast buzzing across the landscape in this. Adrian -- (URL) (22 years ago, 20-Mar-03, to lugnet.build)
