Brickenrocker lives, but it is kinda scattered amongst a few ZIP discs. Take a
lesson from me: backup everything in an orderly fashion to make restoring a
page or a site much easier. I still have everything but I have to hunt for it.
The laziness factor has had an overriding input, and I apologize to Sproaticus,
especially since I told him awhile back that I'd post one of his cool musical
MOCs at Brickenrocker :) (I haven't forgotten!)

Ah yes, the laziness factor - I suffered from it as well. Actually, the stupidity
factor came into effect too. I ALWAYS have my current work burned on a CD weekly
and backed up daily on a separate hard drive on a separate computer. So one day
I needed my backup machine for some testing and since I was going to burn the
work backup tommorow and I needed to test now, I reformatted the hard disk etc...
It was only going down for a day.

Next day, when I was ready to burn the backups, guess what, the primary hard
drive on my work machine woke up kicking and screaming and then died a
horrible scratchy death. ARRRGGHH. Fortunately I had moved the critical work
to yet another PC (I have a network in my home office) but I lost 2 years
worth of email and contacts. DUH!

Second bit of advice...learn to use a web authoring tool like Frontier 5.0.1
It lets you archive your entire site easily, and regens and verifys links and
images, and everything else your website needs. Steep learning curve, but if
you program for a living it's not too bad. Check

<http://www.bmts.com/~rhempel/products/default.html> and go to Frontier.

Better yet, I just found the link after rummaging around the Frontier site. This
is a FREE download of version 5.0.1 - it works well, but I instinctively save
my work often.

Hope this converts some of you out there...

Cheers,

(...) :D That was great! Yeah, neotown.com rolled over and kicked up its little legs (what a surprise). I've thought about FortuneCity but for some inexplicable reason, I don't like the feel of that place. I've been lazy about updating my new site (...) (26 years ago, 7-Apr-99, to lugnet.build)
