"I must rule with eye and claw - as the hawk among lesser birds."
- Duke Leto Atreides

Hi everyone -
I'm a big fan of Frank Herbert's "Dune", but I've never cared for the way that
ornithopters have been shown in the movies and other illustrations. Other folks
have tackled them in Lego, so I thought I'd give it a shot too.
(notably Allison Mackay http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=4276 and
Bryan Hodges http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=2440)
Herbert's descriptions of 'thopters are pretty vague and somewhat confusing -
sometimes buglike and sometimes birdlike. My version tends to be more birdlike.
It features wings that can move, wingtips that retract (well, not really
retract, but be removed :-)), seating for one, and a Holtzman generator for
shields and repulsor-lift that pops out for maintenance.
Pictures are at:

I've made a GIF animation that shows the wings flapping (about 300K):

And just for fun, I've made some of the characters from the book to go with it
(any suggestions how to make a "grossly and immensely fat" minifig for Baron
Harkonnen?)

LMKWYT!
Thanks - Paul
