Thanks, Bill, David, I'm trying some of these other pieces.

hollow stud tops:
In general there is the problem that the piece on top must be longer. I
guess I could insert flat-topped support where the top pieces must meet.

extreme slopes:
These could look very nice. A block 7 wide could support a 1x8 on top. A gap
between each 7-wide block could be interesting.

technic beams:
Little gaps between these are less attractive. I had considered filling the
axle holes with 1x1 round plates. A 1x12 beam topped by a 1x16 brick would
be very strong. Limited colors in 1x16 bricks!

1x1 cylinders:
Could also be decorative, and can be used in any width. Hmm.

1x2 dual cylinder offset plate:
I can't imagine how to use these neatly. Tubes under a brick offer much the
same versatility. They were pretty common in Adventurers sets.

I like the dual-offset idea. I want to make moldings or cornices, all the
way around a 4-sided room. So the dual-offset nature is important for the
corners. This would take a lot of little tiles. The dual-cylinder things
could help. There is the problem of what to with the back. My walls are
already 2 thick so that the outer shell is one color while the inner shell
is all sorts of colors. To do the studs-in-tubes trick the walls must be 3
thick to hide all that.

Better to use a Technic beam and stick a plate into the axle holes. Actually
I like better to point the studs outward by employing axle-stud couplers.

Thanks for the suggestions.

-Erik

(...) Yes - the other way that I know of requires a piece with a hollow stud, and a 1x tile or brick. Tiles and bricks have "posts" which go between the studs normally. However they are the same diameter as the holes in hollow stud pieces (the 1x2 (...) (23 years ago, 7-Oct-01, to lugnet.build)
