(...) I think a Mars base would be mostly underground too, as you wouldn't get much protection from radiation with Mars' thin atmosphere. Although one problem is that a lot (most?) of the structure of a *Lunar* base would be underground: a Mars base might be easier, since I would expect most of it to be on the surface. I bought the 'Ultimate Lego Book' yesterday. and i got an idea. In it, thier is a massive super tanker, modeled fo the 4 inch people they make for scenes.
