Mark Neumann has a very good explanation on his page: (URL) = anything here: (URL) = (URL) a mech is more like Battletech, with a large, bulky profile while mecha are usually more sleek in comparison. I'm guessing that the plural form of "mech" (...) (22 years ago, 15-Jul-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Yeah, that blaster is amazing. =^) Stuart has been posting at LUGNET for I think a year and a half or so. Mostly in the mecha section though. (...) My understanding they mean the same thing, the usage depends on the story context. In Patlabor, the mechs are actually called 'labors' (Patlabor is short for 'Patrol Labor'). Since there are so many mech universes, I think just about anything (...) (22 years ago, 15-Jul-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)
