  Scriptorium

Hi all, I've made a little scene out of a medieval monastery, the scriptorium: (URL) (20 years ago, 21-Sep-04, to lugnet.announce.moc, lugnet.castle) !!

  Re: Scriptorium

(...) Neat! I had an urge to build something like this after reading (URL) The Book on the Bookshelf>, but never actually did it. You should do a couple of shelves with books chained to them. Working in a library myself, I can sympathize with the (...) (20 years ago, 22-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle, FTX)

Hey Bruce, nice job, reminds me of "Name of the Rose" without the poison ink. Great subject matter, great execution, great details...especially the pen/ink wells and recesses book-cases. I can almost hear the chanting in the background. -Keith (20 years ago, 22-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle)

Great little scene! -- Pawel (20 years ago, 23-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Scriptorium

(...) I love the cloth monk robes. The idea of the brown robes made from capes and a rubber band is so simple, yet very effective. I might have to steal that idea someday. (20 years ago, 23-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Scriptorium

This is a really nice little scene, Bruce. I will echo others in praise of the monk robes and recessed bookshelves. My favorite detail is the monk on the far right who has a scroll full of writing on the left and a blank scroll on the right. It very (...) (20 years ago, 24-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Scriptorium

Thanks, Marc. Any suggestion on how I could attach the chain? Or should I just have a chain that drapes across the whole front of the shelf? Bruce (20 years ago, 24-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle, FTX)

  Re: Scriptorium

(...) Thanks, Dave. I can't really claim the design as my own. I have a vague memory of seeing this sort of thing before, but when I went looking all I could find was custom capes people made as trenchcoats for Matrix figs: (URL) (20 years ago, 24-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Scriptorium

(...) Thanks, Brendan. That's the effect I was going for. I'm glad it worked. The robe idea didn't come from you, did it? As I noted above I vaguely remember seeing something similar before. Bruce (20 years ago, 24-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Scriptorium

(...) I may have used something like that, but the first time I remember seeing robes and rubber bands used in that way was in Paul Janssen's "Large Church" MOC, posted back on 10/31/02: (2 URLs) got the choir in red and white, but also a priest in (...) (20 years ago, 25-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle)
