QUICK TOP STORIES LIST
The "Top Stories" listing on the new homepage,
http://www.lugnet.com/
is built automatically based on human feedback, and your opinions make a
difference!
If you are a LUGNET Member, you can help highlight things for this and other
lists: Whenever you're signed in and you view an article through the web
interface, you'll see a box at the bottom which says "Highlight this article?"
and you can select one of two choices:
! Highlight
!! Spotlight
The "Spotlight" choice makes an emphatic recommendation/vote for the article
to appear in the LUGNET Spotlight, and the "Highlight" choice makes a vote for
the article to appear highlighted in regular columnar listings, for example:

Internally, the "Highlight" choice is simply like voting 75 on a scale of
0-100 and the "Spotlight" choice is like voting 100. Votes are averaged
automatically and ! and !! begin to appear after people weigh in. Articles
posted to .announce.* automatically get a small +200 bump upward as part of
the averaging, and articles posted to .off-topic.* and .admin.* get a small
-100 bump downward.

When you click the "More Top Stories" link from the homepage, it takes you to
a bigger listing:
http://www.lugnet.com/spotlight.cgi?days=7&threshold=50&sort=fuzzy
This is an automated list working from the same data, with more viewing
options: Select the number of days, or excitement threshold, or method of
sorting.
Please take a few moments (if you can) to review the items on the Spotlight
page which interest you, and mark them as "Highlight" or "Spotlight"!
