  10179: Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon™

Hey all, The community team would like to present the new Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon. I'm excited to show this off to you all. Below is the official announcement for the set as well as some links to images. I hope you're all as excited (...) (18 years ago, 11-Feb-07, to lugnet.announce, lugnet.lego, FTX) !!

  Re: 10179: Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon™

(...) in a word: WOW In more than a word, I am very pleased to see another large "ok huge" Lego set catered to adult Lego and Starwars fans. You have to remember the mere idea of a set this large was literaly just an idea untill people talked about (...) (18 years ago, 11-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

  Re: 10179: Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon™

(...) Awesome! I really like that you made the UCS set compatible with minifig scale, and hope you'll apply the same concept to other UCS sets (AT-AT) in the future. -Steven (18 years ago, 11-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

!!! Can you say Millenium Falcon Timed build at Brickfest? (18 years ago, 11-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

  Re: 10179: Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon™

(...) SNIP (...) Cool set! I like this one and will order it as soon as my wife regaines contiousness. Oh, on the shop at home website, the pictures won't load. This may keep some shoppers from ordering one (or 5). Mark (18 years ago, 11-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

  Bowed plates around the engine?

Indeed, it all looks great, except for the plates around the engine. They're quite bowed. I hope that's just a sign of hasty assembly. Even though I probably won't buy this set because it's in the new colors, it does look they did a superb job with (...) (18 years ago, 11-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

  Re: 10179: Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon™

(...) A very cool set indeed, though I am another person stuck in my dark ages due to bley so probably won't get one either. I do have a couple of questions about it though... 1. Is the landing gear retractable? 2. Is the whole interior detailed and (...) (18 years ago, 11-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

Re: Bowed plates around the engine?

(...) I don't believe they are bowed - it looks like the "roof" is mad of large circular sectors, which when tilted to get the conic shape produce what looks like bowing. ROSCO (18 years ago, 11-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

Re: Bowed plates around the engine?

(...) You can, but it's about 15 pounds: (URL) The superstructure is musing Technic beams and pins, so it can be held from the center and moved. The top cannon plate does have to be removed though. It's a gorgeous model. Joe (...) (18 years ago, 11-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

Re: Bowed plates around the engine?

(...) Hi Joe, Along with (URL) picture> I think I recognize him as the same guy who designed the Death Star II. Am I right? Did you get a chance to talk to him? I'm curious what other LEGO sets he's designed over the years? He's obviously a very (...) (18 years ago, 12-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

(...) ... (...) ... (...) Well, you have to love this part from that interview: (...) Quite nice that it didn't actually come true! :) -- joshua (18 years ago, 12-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

  Re: 10179: Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon™

(...) Along with everyone else I second this. It is an awesome set but some part of me says that I wouldn't buy it due to the new grey. If I do buy this it would be treated like a stand-alone kit -- not even Lego -- just a model. -mark (18 years ago, 12-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

  Re: 10179: Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon™

(...) The big question though is this: Would you ever WANT to break this baby down. I cannot imagine a reason why I ever would (other than lack of space). (18 years ago, 12-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

  Re: 10179: Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon™

(...) I would love to buy this but it's a bit out of my price range. Would be a great model and when (if) you break it down it looks like it could transform a bley collection into a true powerhouse. For SPACE! builders this could really be the set (...) (18 years ago, 12-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

  Re: 10179: Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon™

(...) I have to whole-heartedly agree with this post. $500 US is VERY steep. Yes, it's got a huge part-count, but it's just not affordable for this middle-aged, middle-income guy. James Wilson Dallas (18 years ago, 12-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

  Re: 10179: Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon™

(...) Yeah, I'm hoping this will pay off for Lego, but it is quite a leap from the $300 price point of the ISD (which did phenomenally well) and the Death Star II (which I'm guessing did NOT do so well). But my guess is that it's pretty much in the (...) (18 years ago, 12-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

Ahh, the old robot arm for the cockpit side window trick. :-) (2 URLs) This plate surfacing technique is much more realistic than my conventional use of plates and slopes (circa 2000), and makes attaching surface detail easier (and reduces the mass (...)   Re: 10179: Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon™

(...) Hahaha. Actually you've just given me an idea. Light bley is pretty close to the colour of corrugated iron so I wonder if you couldn't use large numbers of the new light bley one by one slopes to do something. Tim (18 years ago, 13-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

  Re: 10179: Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon™

(...) This really makes me understand even more deeply how individual we all are when it comes to so many things like music, art and food. The main reason I don't like the new colors is that I find them less realistic. I guess it's a good thing that (...) (18 years ago, 14-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

Bit-tech.net has a "challenge" of sorts - turn this set into a PC case-mod project. They're not offering any prizes, but it would certainly make an interesting addition to an AFOL's office. (URL) it here>. (18 years ago, 14-Feb-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

(...) Hmmm.... 500.00 I am passing on this one.... Rather put that money into a Playstation 3 or some other cool gadget you can actually interact with, and have endless hours, days, or weeks of fun. Not picking up dust in a shelf. (18 years ago, 2-Mar-07, to lugnet.lego, FTX)
