The staff of BrickFest is happy to announce the following contest for attendees:

LEGO Builders Are Invited to Help Re-Build New Orleans in a LEGO® Building Challenge for Adult Enthusiasts

In the wake of the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the LEGO Builders of Tomorrow campaign has put out a call to action asking children across the country to donate a LEGO brick and their idea (photo, drawing, story) of what they think a rebuilt New Orleans should include. All of the bricks collected will be matched by LEGO Group, then donated to New Orleans area schools whose creative resources were devastated by the hurricane. From the ideas children submit, a piece of LEGO art work will be created by LEGO Certified Professional, Nathan Sawaya, and donated to the city as a permanent piece of public art in New Orleans.

We are now challenging you, our community of enthusiasts, to build a LEGO model to showcase design and craftsmanship in honor of the city of New Orleans. Participants must register their intent to participate in the contest by completing and submitting an entry form (available via e-mail to admin@brickjournal.com). Completed forms must be submitted via e-mail to press@america.lego.com or by fax to “Re-Build New Orleans” Building Challenge at 860-763-7736 by Tuesday, August 22, 2006.

WHO CAN ENTER: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Open to registered attendees of BrickFest 2006 (excluding residents of Quebec, Canada) who are 18 years of age as of 6/1/06.

Models may be built and entered in one of three (3) categories:

1. Build (in minifigure, micro or MINILAND scale) an existing historic Building in New Orleans

2. Build (in minifigure, micro or MINILAND scale) an existing building in New Orleans that is being refurbished because of Hurricane Katrina

3. Build (in minifigure, micro or MINILAND scale) a new structure that you think should be added to the city as it is being rebuilt

Entrants should bring their completed models to BrickFest 2006 on August 25 for display through August 27. A photograph of the model will be taken, which will become the property of LEGO Systems, Inc. with usage rights granted to AMH Productions (aka BrickFest) and BrickJournal Media, LLC..

Multiple entries are permitted; however, each entry must be different. Models must be constructed by one (1) person and entries must be submitted in the name of the person who built them. Group entries are not permitted.

JUDGING: Onsite judging and announcement of Grand Prize winner will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2006. The general public will cast their votes for the winning entry by written ballot, choosing their top six (6) favorites. All voting decisions will be considered final.
