BricksWest 2003 is proud to announce the BricksWest Animation Festival to be
held at the BricksWest 2003 Convention located at Legoland and the Windmill
Banquet and Meeting Facility. The Animation Festival will feature a Comedy
Competition and General Film Festival.

Comedy Competition

The Comedy Competition will showcase the talents of stop-motion animators using
LEGO® System products including bricks, mini-figs, and other elements. The use
of LEGO® System products must constitute a majority of materials used in the
production of the animated film. The use of non-LEGO® System products is
permitted as long as their use does not constitute a majority of the materials
used as determined by the BricksWest 2003 Animation Festival Committee or the
use of non-LEGO® System products is part of the story.

The Comedy Competition entry will constitute an original cinematic production
created for the BricksWest 2003 Animation Festival upholding all copyright and
trademark laws of the United States of America. Any entry that borrows from
another media production, -either audio, video, or printed-, will properly
uphold the originator's copyright and reference the original work, the
creators, and the copyright holder in the credits of the film. Where possible
obtain the copyright holders' permission to use the protected work. Originality
will be a key component to the judging of the Comedy Competition entries and
its importance is stressed here. No entry previously submitted for an animation
competition or publicly displayed will be considered in this competition.

The Comedy Competition entry will consist of a stop-motion animated film from 1
minute (60 seconds) to 6 minutes (360 seconds) in length. The subject matter
must be appropriate to an audience consisting of all ages and have appropriate
dialog and visual elements. All entries will be screened prior to public
viewing by the Animation Festival Committee and any entry failing to follow
these guidelines will dropped from consideration in the competition and will
not be publicly displayed. Consult the Comedy Competition Rules for complete
instructions on submitting entries for consideration.

General Film Festival

The General Film Festival is an open call for all animated films, stop-motion
or computer-generated, previously viewed or original, to be submitted and
displayed at a convention of LEGO® Aficionados. All entries are welcome and
there are no time limits or criteria imposed upon the creators of these
entries.

All attempts will be made to show all entries submitted to the General Film
Festival category. There are certain guidelines that the Animation Festival
Committee will use in determining whether an entry will be shown. First, the
entry will be screened for age appropriateness. Any entry not appropriate for
children will be reserved for an adult only screening. Length is a second
consideration that will force the Committee to place longer or feature-length
movies in a forum for their own screening. Shorter entries will be grouped
together for viewing at one sitting. The committee will also make an attempt to
group movies based upon standard film categories and themes. Dramas will be
grouped with dramas and Star Wars themed movies will be grouped together.

Entry Guidelines

All entries must be received no later than Friday, January 31st, 2003. Any
entry received after that date will be returned unopened to the sender. Send
entries to: BricksWest 2003 Animation Festival, Attn: Todd S. Thuma, 1325 Cedar
Shoals Drive, Unit 200, Athens, GA 30605.

Visit the BricksWest 2003 for complete rules and an entry form.

Comedy Competition entries are required in one of two formats. The entry must
be submitted on videotape. If this is not possible for the creator then a
second format of Quicktime Movie at a resolution of 720 by 480 (640 by 480
and/or widescreen also allowed), submitted on CD-Rom is required. Any animator
not able to comply with these format restrictions or have questions concerning
format options must contact the Animation Festival Committee Chair at
thumat@gactr.uga.edu.

General Film Festival entries can be submitted on either tape or CD-Rom in a
variety of formats. Consult the entry rules for further information concerning
format options.

Awards

The BricksWest 2003 Animation Festival will award entries in both the Comedy
Competition and the General Film Festival. In the Comedy Competition, awards
will be given for "Best of Category" selected by a paneled jury and "Audience
Choice" to be selected by audience members present at the premiere.  The
General Film Festival will award "Best of Show" to the entry garnering the most
votes from viewers submitting ballots.  All awardees will receive an engraved
plaque of bricks and a brand new LEGO®  Construction Set.
