Some of you on build.military may remember I was asking for advice on building
gun turrets.  I finally finished that and many other challenges, and am pleased
to reveal the results of my efforts.

The Consolidated PB4Y-2 is a Navy patrol bomber based on the more well-known
B-24 "Liberator".  During WWII the Navy ordered several B-24's and designated
them the PB4Y-1 "Liberator".  In later years, a more highly customized version
was built and called the PB4Y-2 "Privateer".  The principle differences include
a single tailfin instead of two, more guns, longer fuselage, and new engines.

During the Korean war^H^H^HPolice Action, my father flew these planes in
flare-dropping missions over North Korea.  They would look for night-time truck
convoys and drop flares from high altitudes, and Marine pilots in Corsairs
would then strafe the convoys.  The Privateers would circle for many hours
while wave after wave of Marine pilots would do their jobs under the light
given by the flares.  (This was before night vision devices, of course...).
The Privateers were based in Okinawa.

I started building this plane in earnest right after September 11th, as a way
of dealing with the disaster as well as my feelings about my father.  Any
discussion of this topic should be directed to an off-topic group, however....

Hope you enjoy the pictures, and (as always) LMKWTK...

Very Impressive model. I love to see the models of the USAAF and USNAF. This gives me more incentive to find the time to finish my in-design B-24. Maybe I will since all of my black and red is in the hull of my sub right now. I might look into it, (...) (23 years ago, 28-Oct-01, to lugnet.build.military)

Nice job. Very nice job. I spent a number of years working at a hobby/military history shop and love it when people produce models of lesser known hardware. I love the bomber's station especially. I was wondering, is there any access to it besides (...) (23 years ago, 28-Oct-01, to lugnet.build.military)

Wow great job Bill! I love all of the hatches and the landing gear, The model as a whole is very realistic, great job! I love the way you did the ball turret up front and in the rear, very clever. Great job Bill! Look forward to more creations from (...) (23 years ago, 28-Oct-01, to lugnet.build.military)

(...) Bill, Wow, this is fabulous, a great model considering the tricky curves you have to emulate in Lego. George (23 years ago, 29-Oct-01, to lugnet.build.military)
