I don't have the Pro4K though I've heard great things about it. However, I
would recommend that you spend a little more and go out and buy yourself a
digital camera, somewhere in the 2+MP range.

The reasons being that you will get excellent resolution, you aren't tied
to a computer (like the QC) and the flexibility is just as great as far as
what you can do with it. Depending on the camera you buy it may be easier
to build an all-lego mount as well.

Just be sure to look for something with these specs:

Manual flash
Manual focus (if possible)
Macro mode
At least 2x zoom (if possible - not necessary but very helpful)
LCD Viewfinder (almost necessary - I couldn't film without mine!)
Picture size at least 1024x786 (you can always resize if there isn't a
lower setting - the high numbers will help the resolution of the film)

I'm using the HP Photosmart 318 and love it. A large memory card is
recommended if you shoot large chunks of film at one time (90+ frames per
scene). The built-in memory will only hold about 90 images on the lowest
setting (592x400).

Also, the lower the lens is to the bottom of the camera the better. You can
always raise the camera for high shots - it's not so easy to lower it.

~Mike

(...) Specifically, make sure you get one that does all the above in streaming webcam mode. The most valuable tool in stop-mo animation is onion-skinning. This generally only works in "webcam" mode, in my experience. I use a Logitech QuickCam Pro (...) (21 years ago, 12-Dec-03, to lugnet.animation)
