Only one month remains before entires are due on July 9th for the BrickFest
Animation Competition and BrickFest Animation Film Festival.

The Animation Competition judges entries that have taken up the challenge of
producing a Star Wars movie trailer that previews the latest release, Episode
II: Attack of the Clones, or one of the former 4 Star Wars movies, or the
entire Star Wars saga and phenomenon in general. The movie trailers may be
serious or humorous and may treat the subject matter fairly or spoof either the
movie or the original movie trailers themselves. The trailers are limited to a
total running time of three minutes, credits not included.

Awards for the Animation Competition will be given in the categories Audience
Award, which will be determined by the audience in attendance at the Animation
Festival Presentation, and BrickFest Organizers Best of Competition, which will
be determined by conference organizers using a scoring rubric considering
animation techniques, sound, editing, and other criteria. Both awards are equal
in prestige and will be awarded similar awards.

The Animation Festival is a public showing of animator's work in the field of
LEGO® Brick Animation. Any person or group that has ever animated with the
brick is encouraged to enter their animation or animations in the Festival for
viewing by the conferees to the BrickFest. Entries may run any length up to 10
minutes long. Entries exceeding 10 minutes long will be considered on a
case-by-case basis. Any work may be submitted that has been displayed
previously in other venues or through other distribution channels, but only
animations that have not previously won awards will be considered for the
awards presented in this category.

Awards will be presented in the BrickFest Animation Festival by auidence
selection and convention organizer selection. While the entire list of awards
has yet to be determined, Best of Festival, Audience Award and Conference
Organizer Award will be given for this division of the Animation Festival.

Entries for the Animation Competition, the Star Wars movie trailer, must be
submitted on CD-Rom in the Quicktime, *.MOV format or on video cassette, either
VHS or Mini-DV in the NTSC format. Entires for the Animation Festival should be
submitted on VHS or MiniDV format primarily. However, should you be unable to
convert your animation from the digital computer realm to the analog tape
realm, then entries will be accepted on CD-Rom in the Quicktime (*.MOV file),
Windows MediaPlayer (*.AVI File), or Real Video (*.RM file). The New DIVX
format will also be acceptable. Animations sent on DVD can also be dealt with.
The organizers will also have access to the Internet at the  convention and
could conceivably link to a web site, however this should be  used as a backup
to the file being sent via videotape or CD-Rom or DVD. Since Internet access is
tricky and not dependable, access to you material may not be available at the
time of "airing" and we would hate for your animation not to be shown because
your server was down. Also keep in mind that animations will be shown using the
video tape format where possible and will most likely be shown "full screen"
whereas computer based animations will be played in the native resolution of
the animation.

You need not be in attendance at the BrickFest convention to either submit your
entry or be considered for the competition. Entries received after the July 9th
deadline will not be included in the competition and based on schedule and
response may or may not be viewed at the convention.

Entries with objectionable content or audio not appropriate for audiences of
all ages will be shown at the discretion of the BrickFest 2002 organizers and
in a venue appropriate to their content.

Winning entries will receive a plaque, engraved LEGO®  Bricks of course, and a
LEGO®  Set of modest value.

Entry forms will be required of all entries and will be available in the next
couple days.

Good Luck to all animators.
