I don't like Lego's arms for T-rex, either, but for different reasons.
From the fossil records, it seems that the arms of a T-rex have limited
range for up-down (or forward-backward) movement. The arms mostly
move left and right (or inward and outward). Also the two fingers on its
hand are not opposite from each others.
So while T-rex cannot hold things in one hand, it can hold things using
both of its arms togetherly.
Beside of being anatomically correct, imagine the playability! For
example, you can have a T-rex holding Timmy with both of its arms and
starting chewing his legs.
By the way, the otherwise majestic T-rex in 8485 also moves its arms up
and down. But with 8485 this only provides us one more opportunity of
customization.
