Could someone please point out the item in the TOS which prohibits
non-auction buy/sell/trade posts out of non-market groups? As far as I'm
concerned, currently, such posts are allowed. Todd had posted many times
that such is allowed, though discussion started which was going to
change the rules. The rules have not been modified in this direction
(though I do note that Suzanne has posted at least once asking market
posts to be kept out of non-market groups).

PLEASE - lets clarify this. And while we're doing it, lets make sure the
possibility of market posts in loc and org groups is properly addressed
(my guess is that the sentiment would be against market posts in the loc
groups, except what about localized shopping tips? Each organization
should be able to set the policy for it's own group, though I could
understand if auctions were still not allowed).

Frank
who has been calling for this clarification for how long now?

Offhand. . .exactly two years,

although with perhaps increasing resolution over time.  And I agree that a
clarification of the TOS[1] would still be a good thing.

[1] Personally, I'd prefer a change to ban on all want-to-buy/want-to-sell
posts in theme groups, but I don't run things. . .

I know that the .loc.au crowd enjoys having sale announcements
in .loc.au and .org.au (the latter, especially, IIRC), so maybe
a blanket restriction from the theme groups (including .general)
would be called for.  I honestly don't find b-s-t or .shopping
announcements in .loc or .org groups such a big deal.

We tend to post notices of retail sales in .loc.au, with trading / auctions/
etc going in .org.au (where the charter specifically allows it).

However, and solicitors might want to think about this, the
worst place to go looking for rare themed parts is in that
particular theme group--they're the most likley to have them,
yes, but they're also the most likely to want to keep them (such
as when people come looking for Pirate parts in .pirates).  We
have historically nudged them gently over to .b-s-t, which has
  served them well.

But yeah, I'd like the clarification of the TOS.  I consider
market posts in the theme groups WAY off-topic, but it needs to
be explicit, as it is with auctions (which used to be a big
  hassle too--remember that mess?).

I agree. The theme groups should be for discussing things other than trading
etc. However the .loc & .org groups should be allowed to decide their own fate.
