No, what I expected when I joined LUGNET, was part resource, part discussion.
.space mostly. I saw it as a place to exchange building ideas and maybe a little
banter. But what I got was at least 10-fold better.
The single biggest surprise for me was .off-topic.debate. I can't imagine having
a week without some heated discussion going on (and am sad when there isn't
one). Can I mention here that I still miss hop-frog? I've learned a lot, and
been directed to resources I would never have been exposed to had it not been a
part of LUGNET. I am very grateful for it's existence and it almost never has to
do with Lego per se. Hell, I've swayed my opinion over the second amendment
because of things presented on those forums. If it were to be trimmed off
because of it's lack of Lego-talk, now there would be a major disservice.
So if Todd wants to further compartmentalize parts of LUGNET, more power to him.
If you want a .kyle, more power to you! (provided you mean it) There should be
.lavender. If something is planted and it dies on the vine, then it should be
cut. But it should be given a chance and not dismissed out of hand. If you feel
that sections of the community are useless then don't subscribe to them. What is
so difficult about that?
