Ive been kicking an idea around for a while, and I wanted to put it out
to the
community: Id like to start an organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual,
and
transgendered (LGBT) AFOLs.

Great idea! And while were at it, Id like to suggest the following groups
be made to further separate people away from the reason why we come to
lugnet in the first place:
lugnet.groups.mensa - for smart people who want to be separated from
normal or average intelligence.
lugnet.groups.religious.(insert your religion here) - for those spiritual
types.
lugnet.groups.phobia - for people who are afraid of *whatever*
lugnet.groups.MADD - mothers against drunk driving
lugnet.groups.AARP - for retired people
lugnet.groups.NAACP - cant leave out our ethnic brotheren
lugnet.groups.hypocrites - ya, this post probably goes here...
See my point? Why do we need further separation when we all come to lugnet
for a common goal - TO TALK ABOUT LEGO

Rob,
I know that you are trying to point out that it would be absurd to have a bunch
of groups like that, however I do believe that any group that chooses to self
identify and is genuinely interested in community building should be allowed to
do so. If it doesnt take hold, then there really wasnt any interest in the
first place. The only caveat I would place is that groups that have obviously
hateful names should be scrutinized as in Lars example.
Other than that, who are we to say that people dont need a place to make a
community from within a larger population. Look at LUGNET itself. Are we all out
about LEGO? Did we not self organize?
As for the common goal, it was pointed out several months ago by
Calum and others that while lego brings us
together, it is the friendships that keep us.
