How about then modifing the system so that:

The most current highlight goes on the highlights bar, or
the most highlighted message of a thread goes on the highlights bar,
Multible(duplicate) highlights move to the seperate LUGNET Spotlight page, or
some something like that?

The goal of my suggestion is not to keep the word from getting out, it is to
keep our highlights from getting hijacked and then over run by one thread.

Take this morning for example: (Sat, 7/17/04)
10 items on the highlights bar
7 items are color related (not really my beef, if 10 seperate color threads are
considered highlighted then so be it)
4 items are based on the same thread.
Half of these basically say the same thing. vis-a-vis "Stop whining."

End result, slightly less than half (40%) of our highlights are of one thread.

So while 40% of our highlights are of one string, MOCS, BF messages, and other
LEGO related highlighted messages are being pushed to a seperate page.
It should be noted that two messages on the overflow page are by Jake McKee as
per your example.  Showing that even these important replys are not getting seen
in the highlight bar.  Even if we bumped half of the same thread messgaes from
the bar it would allow Jake's messages to come through.  We bump another and the
Pnumatic Arm could get back on the bar, I mean woof.  That MOC aught to be where
folks can see it!

Hi Mark, While I understand the frustration, I don't think this would necessarily be a good idea. Imagine some 100+ message thread started by a rumor--say, for instance, the castle/bionicle threads from last November. A bunch of people get fired up (...)
