This is not actually a shortcoming of FTX but a stylistic error.  The forced
line break character is not the only way to cause a <BR>.  99% of the time, in
fact, the forced line break character is never needed.

Of the 26 forced line break characters used in the post you're referring to,
only 6 were necessary (two used after the boldfaced names within the article and
four in the sig*) and the other 20 were completely unnecessary.

I totally agree that it approached unreadability -- but it's not FTX per se that
made it unreadable.  I guess it would be nice if the posting interface could
flag people about superfluous forced line break characters.

I suspect my documentation isn't clear enough on the use of the forced line
break character.  It's only intendeded to be used when there's no other way to
make a line break where you want it.  In the 20 superfluous cases mentioned
above, a simple double-spacing between paragraphs would have generated the same
effect.

(...) Among other things. I think it's better than some of your other docs (and better than the average help text these days, that's for sure) but it still is a bit impenetrable in some spots. I found myself struggling to get control of layout in (...) (21 years ago, 13-Jun-03, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)
