Dear LUGNET Admin,
I would like to formally request (suggest) that a newsgroup (.moc.vignette or
something similar) be created. There have been numerous posts of vignette
MOCs over the past few weeks, and I, for one, feel that there is a
substantial interest in this type of creation, deserving of its own newsgroup
for posting. Vignettes are just that - small and detailed slices of
activity. They are not sculptures, per se, but a small-scaled type of MOC
that can be of any theme or subject.
The creation of a vignette MOC, be it in the traditional 6x6 or 8x8-stud
layout, is both original and creative, as one is limited only by the level of
detail in such a small footprint. Even if it is a 6x10-stud creation, it
could still fall under this category. Furthermore, perhaps The LEGO Company
will look at such creations as something to own/develop/market - small sets
similar to the recent X-Pods. Thanks for listening...

Note, this is my personal thinking, not official policy!
Im not sure that we ought to create a new group for every fad building
style that comes along unless it has legs. Vignettes are very neat, I agree,
but Im not sure they have longevity.
If a group was created, I agree that build.vignette is probably the correct
group name.
But I think its a bit premature yet. I could be wrong.

Sorry - I meant to say .build.vignette (Thanks, ROSCO!), but it was late when
I did my initial post.
My thoughts on this was to have a place to group/view MOCs of the small scale.
There are newsgroups more suited for large-scale MOCs: such as .sculpture and
(perhaps) .mosaic. Build.vignette would sort of be the opposite end of that
spectrum. Also, if someone posted an Aquazone vignette only to .aquazone, it
would probably go unnoticed by many. At least .vignette would serve as a central
showcase for such creations.
Im not sure if this is really a fad either. The LEGO Company has produced a
number of small sets for years, including those such as 4475 and 4476, which
can appear more like vignettes than small sets. I realize there is a grey
(bley?) area there, between the two. :-) Thanks for listening!
Nelson
