{ OK, doh!  After composing this, I just did a search on "emoticons" and • sure
enough, this was <http://news.lugnet.com/admin/suggestions/?n=541 • discussed> a
while ago.  What ever happened to it? }

Hi All,

Smiley icons seem to be all the rage on many other forums on the net, but • we
don't have any here on Lugnet.  I suspect the reason has to do with the • "cheese"
factor as these icons can appear cheesy and annoying at times (especially • the
animated ones).

I'm using a normal (MS Outlook Express) news reader to read and write post
on lugnet. So those smileys would just make "noise" in the the reading. And
since this forum still is open for normal "text based" newsreaders I don't
think we should implement graphical smileys.

But you can still use the text version of the smielys:    :-)    ;-)   and
so on...

I can't see that those are much used here in the lugnet forum at all....

Regards
Øyvind Steinnes
