Ya, it was pretty quick.  Kind of like a thunderclap.  :)  It was 10% kneejerk
and 90% "Oh my god, look what has happened, as warned.  X and Y and Z (people)
were right all along!"  (I think JoshuaD was the first person to point out the
potential for problems down the road, and was he ever right...)


But I'm not sure if I would recommend every modification to LUGNET be
discussed for a specified period of time before implementation.  I don't
think such a requirement would be a Good Thing.

Well, we can un-do this partway.  It's a stopgap and, again, the lesser of
two evils.  Two steps forward, one step back, something like that.  First the
general "fix" for casual users, then the power-user "fix" on top of that.
Then later something much better to replace it all and serve both without
kludgey switches.

I'm off to go pick up the cat at the vet...I'll think about a cookie switch
on the way there & back.  More later...

Just a thought: Todd, I don't know how LUGNET codewise is implemented, but I assume you have an user-database somewhere (to validate posting-priveleges and to store subscribed mailinglists etc.) At our company I implemented our Intranet, it's (...) (25 years ago, 10-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
