Sometimes when I create a link I get a "mime encoded" message and I
cannot post.  What, exactly, does this mean?  What confuses me is that
is appears to be random; these are never binary links, but normal URL
say to ebay for instance.

Confused in Brickland,
John

MIME stands for Multi-part Internet Mail Exchange (or something to that
effect, I forget exactly what).  If it's refusing to accept your message,
you must accidentally be posting it with a 'Content-Type:' header of
'multipart/mixed' or 'multipart/alternative' or equivalent.  Check your
newsreader settings and make sure that it's saying always to send messages
as plaintext, never as HTML or MIME.

(...) Ah. I thought that if I sent messages in plaintext only, I wouldn't be able to hyperlink. I'll try it. -John (...) (25 years ago, 21-Jan-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
