Mime encoded messages?

Sometimes when I create a link I get a "mime encoded" message and I
cannot post.  What, exactly, does this mean?  What confuses me is that
is appears to be random; these are never binary links, but normal URL
say to ebay for instance.

(...) MIME stands for Multi-part Internet Mail Exchange (or something to that effect, I forget exactly what). If it's refusing to accept your message, you must accidentally be posting it with a 'Content-Type:' header of 'multipart/mixed' or (...) (25 years ago, 21-Jan-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
