Out of curiousity, Todd, what caused the weird formatting in the message I'm
replying to? (and similar formatting I've seen in other messages, but never
bothered to ask about because I thought it was a quirk of specific people's
readers)

Specifically, why did:

foo
foo
foo
(in the raw message)

get formatted as:

foo
foo (weird period-like thing) foo

?
