Possible, yes; straightforward, no. When an article is submitted to the
newsserver, it's not known what ordinal number will be assigned to it until
the instant that it actually appears. That is, only the newsserver can
assign the article numbers, as it controls the semaphore on incrementing the
article numbers. You can take a guess, and hope that no other article comes
in between the time you look at the current article count and the time that
you submit the article, but this becomes a race condition bug. The only
safe way to do it would be to have some script go through and post-process
each article after it appears in the news database -- after the article
number and therefore the URL are known.
