[Trimmed .cad.dev.org.ldraw, we're way off topic for that group]

So, could there be an option on the web-interface for this?  Like a checkbox for
"start a new thread with message"?

Then the web interface could automatically add some kind of X-header line to
back-reference the old thread, or maybe add text at the top of the message body.

starter in that case... give a URL to the anchor point of the new thread in

years later they can see the linkage.

Very good idea!

Thanks!

Maybe even crosslink, with the first post in the continued tree pointing (with
an explicit label) back to the root of the previous tree too.

(it's true that the searcher will no doubt find both threads if their
keywords are picked with some care, but this is a small additional aid
which should not take too much effort to do and will certainly not HURT
things)

And it helps future readers when the linkage is spelled out explicitly.

Yes!
