Hi all,

I have quite a lot of people mailing me (about BlockCAD and Lego) from all
over the world, many of them have never seen lugnet, and are very happy when
I point them here.

But, much too many react like the following quote:

I've tried at lugnet, but didn't entered in the discussion groups. It
looks like a shopping site.

What does this tell us?

Does lugnet have the right 'look and feel', or is it just too much like
every other site, so that visitors don't even bother to find out what it's
all about?

Is http://www.lugnet.com/ really inviting people to take part in
discussions, showing what lugnet is, or is it plainly scaring them away?

As I _know_ what lugnet is, I can't see anything specifically wrong with the
start page, but maybe it's time to ponder: 'Does the start page reveal
enough of what lugnet is, and what it isn't?'

(I suppose this should have gone into lugnet.admin.general, so I'd better
FUT there before Larry does...)

That is not my impression at all. The front page is in need of some
freshening up, but the appearance and performance of the site overall are
hugely satisfying to me. Yes, that is right. The design of the site
satisfies me a lot!

I find your correspondents' impressions baffling. Are they perhaps confusing
"shopping site" with "professionally designed"?

But the front page isn't the whole look and feel. It's definitely a first
impression. I would think even the most casual of users would discover that
within one click. (I guess I am agreeing that the font page has some
disconnect from the site as a whole.) But didn't Suzanne announce a planned
overhaul?
