One thing worth a quick check inside is the directory news/art/control If the articles were cancelled maliciously from the outside by forgery (somehow) of cancel-request messages from <news@lugnet.com>, this directory would contain a log of (...) (4 weeks ago, 9-Jun-26, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.admin.nntp)

I wonder if it's possible to do a 'diff' on the tree of articles (old/new, where "old" points at the backup) to see if any others accidentally went missing (ignoring files that match the name "1" or "2")?
