NELUG has actually in the last day or two discussed something to this effect
but we didn't consider LUGNET as it stands today an option.  NELUG has gotten
so big that our off-line discussion mailing list is becoming a very high
traffic area.  We like to keep our project discussions private until ready for
announcement.  That means our use of our LUGNET newsgroup has tailed off over
time.

How about having Private Newsgroups that are password protected and membership
into these groups are managed by the group "owners".  For example: say NELUG
was willing to pay $100 per year to have a private newsgroup (I don't know if
we would be willing or not, this is just for the sake of the discussion).
Access to this group would be controlled by the NELUG membership with separate
login's then their current LUGNET memberships.  This way a NELUG member can get
to the list and not be required to be a LUGNET member.

This could be contract based.  For example: NELUG could sign a 5 year contract
for 1 private newsgroup at $100 per year.  Once the contract is up then a new
deal would have to be worked out between NELUG and LUGNET.

I am sure there are some technical hurdles that would have to be crossed but
this may be another way to get some "Guarenteed" cash flow.
