I think this is a great idea, but why limit it to participation from LEGO?

Wouldn't it be great if every BrickLink vendor, every eBay LEGO seller,
every GoB member could include a GIF on their page that says 'I support
LUGNET', and pledge that x% of the sale is contributed to LUGNET? If this
became a popular idea, perhaps BrickLink could lead the way, and Dan could
automate the contribution collection. Further, imagine if BrickLink had a
box when processing an order that read "Contribute 3% of the total to
support LUGNET". (Checking the box increases the cost by 3%). The buyer
could contribute even if the seller chooses not to.

This would be a very painless way for me to continue to support LUGNET, and
hopefully would be a painless way for LUGNET to collect the funds. It puts a
bit of burden on the sellers, admittedly. But they can choose to adjust
their prices to cover the cost of this burden.

Wow, what a novel and out of the box idea!

As a seller, I'd do this in a minute (some of you who use BrickShelf may
have noticed banner ads I bought for Milton Train Works(tm)...(1) but those
run a far second in funding efficiency to the cleverness of this direct
approach, as there is a significant cut that goes to the ad host. I saw
those as almost exclusively a donation, I've seen little if any increase in
traffic or sales as a result).

Who wants to write the BrickLink(tm) suggestion? Should it include checkoff
boxes for LUGNET(tm), AND BrickSet(tm) and BrickShelf(tm) as well??

I would pay a higher price to sellers that gave something back.

Me too.

1 - someone bought Guild of Bricksmiths(tm) ads as well.
