I think this is a great idea, but why limit it to participation from LEGO?
Wouldn't it be great if every BrickLink vendor, every eBay LEGO seller,
every GoB member could include a GIF on their page that says 'I support
LUGNET', and pledge that x% of the sale is contributed to LUGNET? If this
became a popular idea, perhaps BrickLink could lead the way, and Dan could
automate the contribution collection. Further, imagine if BrickLink had a
box when processing an order that read "Contribute 3% of the total to
support LUGNET". (Checking the box increases the cost by 3%). The buyer
could contribute even if the seller chooses not to.
This would be a very painless way for me to continue to support LUGNET, and
hopefully would be a painless way for LUGNET to collect the funds. It puts a
bit of burden on the sellers, admittedly. But they can choose to adjust
their prices to cover the cost of this burden.
I would pay a higher price to sellers that gave something back.

Also, I've read the transcript from BrickWest (several (...) (23 years ago, 4-Apr-02, to lugnet.admin.finance)
