Hi again, are the instructions also included as a piece, or are they
just included in the inventory (with any catalogues) but not counted
in the overall part count?

Paper items (including sticker sheets) do not count toward the inventory.
Non-plastic building items, such as string, rubber bands/belts, do count
toward the total.

Extra copies of parts (like extra 1x1 round plates, extra rubber
bands/belts) don't count toward the total shown on the box.  I usually *do*
count those items in my manual counts.

So a 2x1 brick hinge if it is put together is 1 piece, but if you have
to put it together is 2, is that right.

Right.  Generally speaking.
