Hey Brendan,

Great installments as always. My (belated) comments:

Samuel is born - I like Elkanah’s customizedite hairpiece quite a lot. In the second pic I’m a little creeped out by the two smallest kids, though - with all that tan around them they look like disembodied heads to me. That head-as-body trick works well for a wrapped-up baby, but not so well for bigger kids, IMO. I like the temple of Yahweh a lot - was there a reason why you used older white bricks? The way you did the legs in the 3-year-old bull is a nice idea.

Corrupt priests - Good head choices for Eli’s sons. Those little mustaches always looked kinda sleazy to me. In the second pic it kind of looks as if the priest is naked while picking out his meat. The wrap made of the cape and rubber band is neat, though, when you can finally see it.

Messenger boy of doom - I agree, those temple furnishings are really nice. How is Samuel’s wrap held on, btw? It’s a nice effect to have God get more and more obvious with each time he called.

Philistines capture the Ark - How did the priests get the ark out of the temple? It looks too wide for the door. I like the perspective on “So the Philistines fought” a lot, also a nice pose for the broken neck of Eli.

Hey,

Continuing on:

Wealth - I like that shelf solution using clips. How is the screen attached on the computer? It looks like it’s attached to a steering wheel piece. In the yard sale the block of books on the right looks a little odd, espeically since it’s a mix of 1x2’s and 2x2’s. This is the second time you’ve used this technique of bending a head up for someone laying down - interesting - I think it was better in the previous instance where they were dead, since it seems an unnatural angle. Cute idea on the camel and the needle.

Divorce - I really like how you added background outside the door in the first shot. The sand green / dark gray wallpaper is very effective. Good action scene with the stoning. Why just the one fleshy fig on the divorced woman while yellow everywhere else?

Castration - Ouch! That face just says it all, doesn’t it? Perfect choice. My favorite detail is probably the toilet paper roll behind him. I wish I could see the toilet itself.

Self mutilation - This may be my favorite of your redone lessons. In the first pic that’s the perfect face eyeing the well-endowed fig. Some gruesome photoshoppery on the second pic. The broken window in 5:30 is particularly effective, and it’s a nice use of the Legorado sticker. In 9:45 I really like the siding on that house. In 18:8, where is that guy’s hand? Now THAT’s some harassmment! Very effective on the mutilation with the power saw (the best of these, IMO), and I LOL’d at the subsequent hook hand and wooden leg.

Law of Moses - In the first pic, why is Jesus holding the scroll upside down? I really like that customized hairpiece on the boss. That scene looks very much like something from Office Space. Good Papal balcony and LOL at his hat.

Looking forward to future installments.

Hey Brendan,

Awesomeness!

Love - I really like the Oval Office, with the flag, the first family, that kalashnikov, etc. Was that curtain design inspired by Shawn Sullivan? And then - LOL - you don’t get a lot of Hitler MOCs. On the Klan, I think it would be better if you used this piece in white. I made this vig and my wife’s first thought was that it looked like a klan guy. The oil execs is funny and I like the technique to have the arab lean forward.

Forgiveness - more Bushy goodness. I just noticed that you used crates to make the desk - very effective. BTW, is the “hunt them down” part a real quote?

Giving - Hmm, the proportions seem off on the sports car. I really like the photo angle on Luke 6:34.

Lust - Very effective murder scene in the first pic, and the payoff in the last scene is very funny.

Hey, I’ve got to go right now. I’ll come back to the other parts later.

Hey Brendan,

Dang you! Every time you post a new installment it makes me feel horrid over my own long-neglected projects.

On Peace - Great implementation of the Lowell Sphere!

On Family - How did you get Jesus’ arms out like that? Did you cheat with glue or is there some clever build solution that I’m not seeing? Great house. My favorite of the violence scenes is probably the daughter against mother.

On Faith - Great microscale city. I like the punchline with the mountain throwing up a tidal wave, though for some reason the upside down mountain looks odd to me.

On Prayer - For some reason I really like the sock on the floor of the room. The Fabuland accordian in the corner is an odd touch. The detached arms for the praying guy work very well. I didn’t reallize there were so many colors of bread.

On Hypocrisy - LOL on the plank. That phrase has always put a funny image in my head, and you’ve captured it perfectly. Slight error alert - in the shadow you can kind of see the piece holding up the plank. Funny ending.

On Self Defense - Good choice of head for the tooth for a tooth guy. The pools of blood are effective.

On Dogs and Pigs - The house in the first scene is really nice. I’m not a huge fan of the Duplo pigs. I actually prefer your original brick built pigs

On Hell - Great throne. That 2x2 plate with rail piece works really well. The Hell scene is very effective - it reminds me of some rennaissance painting, but I don’t remember which. Did you base this on some particular artwork?

On Anger - Nice allusion to use the first pic in this installment. I really like the blood pouring off in the beheading pic. Seems like those tiles would have kept falling over during photography. I really like the electric chair design a lot.

Great work, Brendan. You always inspire.

Yahoo! More BT!

Last Supper - Hmm, it seems very similar to before, though the photography seems crisper. Is the old version still there for comparison (for some reason, the relevant folders on Brickshelf are all suppressed - I can’t imagine any questionable photos (along the lines of Lot’s relations with his daughters) in these, which I thought was the point of Kevin’s handling of the BT)? I do see that it’s a lot more polished comparing the old to the new - the seams between bricks aren’t random, you’ve removed the goblets that were blocking faces, the window frames match the wall, and you’ve added some exterior outside the windows. You’ve also changed a couple of the disciple torsos. When did those become standardized? I know I’ve had the problem with two-year waits between my story updates that sometimes better torsos or heads appear for characters I’ve already established. One thing I notice is that the photoshoppery in this pic isn’t quite precise in that the satan ghost overlaps Judas’ arm.

Arrest - Again, I don’t remember exactly what the original was like, but this seems crisper. I like the first scene where they’re climbing into the hills a lot and the kneeling Jesus is very good. I’m not a big fan of the goofy angel face.

Trial - Ooh, there are some major changes here. I really like Annas and his floor, and also Caiaphas’ floor and his menorrah, Pilate’s porch and Herod’s floor. Why the grill bricks on Herod’s floor, btw? Setting these round bricks into the wall works well. I’m not a fan of that Barabbas face.

Crucifixion - Outstanding as always. I particularly like how you added the unfocused city in the background of the crucifixion scene. The cross carrying is also a nice new addition. Are the eyes in this scene modded or photoshopped? Btw, the minifig positioning in that scene is particularly good and realistic. The zombie attack is a nice scene - very Goldmanesque.

Judas’ fate - Where are the silver coins from? I see that there are a few on Bricklink but neither Bricklink or Peeron list them as being in any sets. Judas throwing the coins works well (nice floor there, btw), and slightly stretching the head out in the hanging is a funny effect. Not that it matters, but my impression was that the tradition was that he hung himself in a tree rather than inside.

Empty tomb - I get your point, but the way you emphasized the differences between the accounts is a little heavy-handed. The MOCs are all outstanding (though it seems like there should be a better solution for the strips of cloth). I particularly like the use of lighting for in the tomb, out of the tomb, Jesus in the door, etc.

How the Jews tell it - LOL on the “to this day” scene. Who knew that Harry Potter was Jewish?
