(...) Select a file in the Finder and select "Get Info" from the "File" menu (or press Command-I). Under the "Open With:" section of the little window that appears, choose an application to open the selected file when double-clicked. Click "Change (...) (...) ever used is application/x-ldraw. I'm pretty sure it works for mpd files as well as ordinary dat files, but maybe the file has to have a .dat extension? (...) I'll have to look into "Get Info".
