Use pegs and beams attached vertically. They give a surprising amount of strength to a structure. For more details, see pages 59 through 61 of "Dave Baum's Definitive Guide to LEGO Mindstorms," and also page 98 and 99 of the Construtopedia that (...) Gloria and Mark, you are correct-omundo!!!! Yes the 2x2, 2x3, 2x4, 2x8 and 2x10 bricks have tubes underneath now (since '58). Th 2x8, 4x8, and 6x8 plates now have round (instead of square) undersides. The 1x2, 1x6 and 1x8 bricks now have posts (...) (26 years ago, 31-Mar-00, to lugnet.general)
