The problem is that Lego makes it *very* difficult to build things in
proportion, lengthwise. The nose slope should actually be much shallower
("witch dresses" at the most for the bottom layer) but you'd end up
having half the length of the loco as smokebox that way. I think the
stepped boiler top that you have looks odd partly because of the stepped
handrail that goes along with it. If you culd get the handrails level it
would make a big difference to the look. I like the hadnrails, btw, but
they might look less chunky if they were blue rather than black.
The books I have (which each have multiple pics of streamlined A4's) are
"The LNER Scene" by Maurice Earley, and "A History of the LNER v2: The
Age of the Streamliners" by Michael R. Bonravia. Almost all the pics are
3/4 views but some are closer to side-on than others. The only side-on
view I have is of a model, which has to be taken with a grain of salt,
but it does look consistent with the other prototype pics.

In LNER days they were silver-grey, 2-tone blue, and solid blue only
according to the info that I have. I assume the green would have been in
BR days but it's highly unlikely they would ever have been crimson (LMS
colors!! the competitor!).
You might want to try back issues of various model railway magazines for
a drawing - there are sure to have been many over the years and they
would give you a direct side-on view.

| (...) Ahh, I see what you mean now. Yep, i did build it flat on the top previously, but im not sure how i felt about the look of it. As of right now, i only have two pics to work from, and they are 3/4s views, and not side views. I think i decided (...) (25 years ago, 10-Jun-99, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.build)
